My friends the animals: making and shaping “nature” poems for our times.
Carola Luther’s Walking the Animals (Carcanet, 2004) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for First Collection. Her most recent poetry collection On the Way to Jerusalem Farm was published by Carcanet Press in September 2021. In this workshop, you will explore differing perspectives in poems about the “natural world”, whilst challenging your usual formal choices. Working from other people’s poems, and writing from prompts, you will think about shapes and progressions in your drafts and notes: how they could speak to your current experiences of the world, and to the sense of the poem that is emerging.
