Jackie Hagan – This is Not a Safe Space

Jackie Hagan – This is Not a Safe Space

Jackie Hagan Headshot, appearing at the Kendal Poetry Festival

Saturday 20th Feb 4.00pm-5.00pm

Tickets: Free

In “This is Not a Safe Space”, disabled poet, performer and theatre maker Jackie Hagan explores the world of life on disability benefits with her trademark warmth and wit. The show features the voices of people disabled by society: full of spiky humour and pride, these are definitely not sob stories. Jackie weaves these narratives together with poetry and anecdotes, celebrating the weird, the wonky, the unruly, and the resilient. Expect lots of laughter, maybe some tears, and one working class amputee steering the show. Commissioned and supported by Unlimited, celebrating the work of disabled artists.

‘honest, uncompromising, tough and tender – and funny – This is Not a Safe Space rails against the vilification of the working class and the disabled, and their portrayal as either saints or victims’
