Mark Carson writes with both sides of his brain. One side is analytical and scholarly, knows too many words, and relies on a background in offshore engineering. The other is creative and irreverent, and makes up the words that he doesn’t know. He has published two pamphlets, both with Wayleave Press. Hove-to is a State of Mind (2015) includes poems about Africa, poems about oceanography, poems about his residual attraction to the West of Ireland. His new pamphlet The Hoopoe’s Eye (2019) relates the experience of a serious house flood in Southern Spain, and the emotional arc which the restoration entailed. There’s a lot more fun than you would expect.
